Sans Serif (2025)

Sans Serif (2025)
Eternity upon a Roman time,
a good Friday of our Lord, 2009,
the precipitation pitter-patter
like children in playgrounds.

Anticipation captured us;
we'd leave Baskerville
on the Greyhound.
It felt like cascading
across yellow-gold;
our feet floated past
every fluorescent sign.

A tall, bronze and tan,
handsome man that
STANDS LIKE A SHERIFF
had arrested your hand in marriage.
Yes, I left with a citation:
The Corinthian message
impressed on that
band of carats.

These ill-mannered, careless,
monospace adolescents
don't dare exist
in the air of this
editor whose letters
land like sans serif!
Perhaps they've ingested libations;
Distorted sentients whose
most abstract interest is
breasts and pant metrics.

Their calligraphy was unsurprisingly
too immersed in cursives.
Your intellect did crave
smooth sailing,
However, at an aerial, your view
superscript their failings,
While at the same time,
underscored how you and I
ascended their perversion.

Strong in passion,
we bolted to Cambria in time,
The pastor would read his script,
we'd say our vows,
We'd clasp our lips,
you'd take your crown;
Never again to be the open type,
forever intertwined.
